Powerline Supervision

A major importance of distributed sensing lies within the field of critical infrastructure monitoring. In SoFiN, three different use cases will be applied for the innovative flexible system to be developed and these include: 1) Monitor the temperature along high voltage power cables, 2) The supervision of telecommunication infrastructure using an existing fiber network and 3) Supervision of water supply network to detect leakage of water pipes.

This post briefly introduces the use case on the supervision of powerlines:

Distributed temperature and acoustic sensing will be used to collect information on the status of powerlines. Also, we intend to interrogate FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) arrays to further demonstrate and validate the flexibility of the system.
