OFC 2024
The exciting advancements in optical technology were explored at the recent 2024 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exposition (OFC) held from March 24 to 28 in San Diego, USA. It is considered one of the largest events around fiber optic communication and networking, with 12,500 registrants from 74 countries, 630 exhibiting companies and numerous sessions with presentations from renowned industry leaders, invited speakers and researchers from around the world. One of them, Dr.-Ing. André Sandmann from Adtran Networks SE, as a SoFiN project key technology partner successfully delivered technological updates of the project to industry professionals gathered in this global hub of innovation and collaboration within the field.
In the technical conference part, fiber sensing is gaining more and more attention, with multiple sessions dedicated to this topic. For the contributed paper presentation “Pressure Wave Detection and Localization in Deployed Underground Fiber Using Coherent Correlation OTDR” the localization of a pressure wave using deployed optical fiber as a sensor was presented. Therefore, the interrogator setup developed for SoFiN was utilized. In addition, André gave an overview of “Remote Sensing With High Spatial Resolution” in an invited presentation.
